Children's Theater Program
As an extension of our educational programs, Hudson Shakespeare is proud to present "Under the Greenwood Tree", a children's program that introduces kids to the magic and theaticality of Shakespeare's worlds. Special Library's tour
An interactive Shakespeare based program geared towards kids and above under. This showing ncorporates short scenes and passages from a variety of Shakespeare shows to dramatize portions of the famous Shakespeare speech “All the World’s a Stage”. The fairy/Bottom scenes from A Midsummer Night’s Dream, the witches’ scene from Macbeth, the players’ scene from Hamlet, the marriage scenes from As You Like It, the soldier scenes from Julius Caesar, Henry V and others are knitted seamlessly together presenting a journey through different stages of life. 5 actors take the children present a reading time atmosphere which also gets the kids involved in the story by using them “on stage” or repeating along with the actors in such scenes as the fairies from ‘Midsummer’ or soldiers from ‘Caesar’, In the show, the children will read or be cued by our actors to speak sections of speeches, repeating lines as a group or acting as part of a crowd and with our actors then acting out the remaining portions of the show. The focal point is the every present Greenwood tree where the stories begin as a reading time session and then come to life. As the show whips through themes such as youth, marriage, war, and dreams, we finish out with the ending of A Midsummer Night’s Dream incorporating the kids in one last section showing the dream like nature of the presentation. Our goal is to give the children a fast paced, colorful and fun experience with the stage and Shakespeare that they’ll remember and wet their appetite for more theater.
